A year on from The Voice UK 2016 - where is last year's winner now?

If you can't quite remember, it was Team Ricky Wilson's Kevin Simm who won The Voice UK last year in 2016.

And this week he revealed he wouldn't be back on the show this year as he took a swipe at the programme.

Asked if he had been invited to perform on this year's final, Kevin got a dig in as he told his followers on Twitter: "No, unfortunately I missed the season where they go on to support you afterwards 🔒x"

Former Liberty X singer Kevin became the fifth winner of The Voice UK in 2016, topping the public vote in what was the final BBC series.

He released original song All You Good Friends following his win which made it to Number 24 in the charts back in April last year after selling 24,000 copies.

However the song did not feature on Kevin's new 10-track album Recover, which was released last October with new single Wildfire.

Neither the song nor the album made any impression on the chart, both missing the Official Top 40.

It was the latest disappointing result for The Voice UK winners who have never really taken off in the charts.

Only Series 2 winner Andrea Begley made any real impact on the Top 40, peaking at Number 7 with her record back in 2013.

2015's winner Stevie McCrorie charted at 35 while 2014 champ Jermain Jackman reached Number 42. Winner of series 1, Leanne Mitchell, made it to 134.

But some acts from the show have gone on to success in other areas: 2015 runner up Lucy O'Byrne is currently in the West End with Les Mis and 2013 finalist Matt Henry scooped an Olivier award as Best Actor in a Musical for his role in Kinky Boots.

The Voice UK is now on ITV and the show has teamed up with Polydor Records to promote this year's winner.

Whether or not they'll manage to have any more chart success remains to be seen...
