Big Brother's Hughie Maughan and Ryan Ruckledge were reportedly the victims of a homophobic attack in Ireland this week.

The two housemates from last year's series - who are now dating - were ganged up on in Dublin, it's been claimed.

"Can't believe I got attacked in Dublin last night after an awards ceremony homophobic t***s, thank f*** Hughie stuck up for me," wrote Ryan on Twitter alongside a picture of his injuries.

In a chat with the Irish Sun newspaper, Hughie revealed: "It was absolutely terrifying. These men recognised us from TV and one of them said something to Ryan, who said something back."

He explained: "The guy then just hit Ryan in the face. I ran over to help and the other guys then jumped on me. They were shouting all these homophobic things at us.

"They were really horrible, horrible people shouting all these names at us."

The pair had been guests at the Irish showbiz awards The Gossies before they were attacked in the early hours on their way home from an after party.

Security from a nearby venue stepped in to stop the attack as the gang fled.

Following the nasty assault, Ryan tweeted to reveal he and Hughie were set to move to Spain this week, writing to fans: "Thankyou we are fine and looking forward to getting to Tenerife on Thursday X"

He added: "Moving to Tenerife on Thursday with Hughie so excited.”

The move follows the couple getting engaged last September, with Ryan announcing on Twitter: "So the cats out the bag me and @hughie_maughan are officially engaged! So happy and can't wait for the future #biggaygypsywedding ?? 😂💍👬♥️💒"
