It was confirmed that Will had quit Strictly Come Dancing back in October last year, pulling out after four weeks into the live shows.
A spokesperson for the BBC announced at the time: "Due to personal reasons, Will Young has decided to withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing. The show fully respects his decision and wishes him all the best for the future."
Will said in his own statement: "To be a part of Strictly has been a long time ambition of mine. As a performer, a viewer, and a fan of the show, to dance as a contestant was an experience I always hoped for.
"I have made some great friends, and am in awe of their performances week in, week out. I have found a creative partnership with Karen that has been the most wonderful thing to experience."
He continued: "Unfortunately, I am leaving the show for personal reasons. I leave with joy in my heart that I have been able to take part in one of the most loved shows on British television."
Speaking to this week’s OK! magazine in a joint interview with husband and fellow Strictly pro Kevin Clifton, Karen says: “I was heartbroken. He started out with such a bang and was the perfect partner.
“I’ve had some amazing partners in the past but with Will, dancing came naturally; all the ingredients were there.”
She recalls: “to get that phone call the day after we’d danced the salsa was like a slap in the dace. I’ve never cried so much.”
Kevin suggests: “Karen could’ve totally been in the final.”
Karen continued: “It didn’t feel nice, it was like getting over a relationship where they break up with you and you didn’t see it coming. I thought everything was going good!
“I understand Will;s reasons for leaving, but it was tough. I never had closure.”
While Karen’s spell on Strictly was cut short, Kevin made it to the final for a fourth year running.
But Karen joked that he had to have counselling after missing out on the glitter ball trophy once again.
