Recently eliminated Dancing On Ice contestant 'Comedy' Dave Vitty has suggested Jason Gardiner's controversial comments are one of the prime reasons viewers tune in to the show, in an interview with Digital Spy.
Speaking to the website, Vitty revealed the celebrities do not meet or mix with the judges, confessing he has "no idea" as to whether Jason Gardiner acts up to his acerbic personna on the show, or if it's genuine.
He is quoted as saying: " The bottom line is that it's an entertainment show and you need big characters like Jason to cause the drama. It's the same with Simon Cowell on X Factor. These are the characters that people tune in to watch."
Gardiner has always been a controversial figure on the show, with viewers divided over his often personal critiques, which in the past have included telling Sharron Davies she looked like "faecal matter that won't flush", and likening Loose Women star Denise Welch to her skating partner's parent. Controversy reached an all-time high this series, with a dramatic on-screen row with head coach Karen Barber, which sparked over 3,500 complaints to TV regulator Ofcom. He recently insisted to Radio Times however, he is not a bully.
Dancing On Ice continues this Sunday, on ITV1.
