X Factor ratings dip to three year low as live shows begin

Simon Cowell

The new X Factor 2011 panel may have managed to attract 11 million viewers to the stat of the show earlier this year, but it seems the novelty of the new judges is quickly wearing off. The first live show on Saturday night was nearly two million viewers down on the year, seeing a three year low for the show.

It says something about a show's popularity when ratings over more than 10 million are seen as disappointing.

Saturday night's opening live episode, which saw the first 16 perform for the first time, was watched by 10.4 million viewers, down on last year’s 12.2 million opener.

A 45-minute clash with Strictly Come Dancing didn't help the show however, with the BBC One celebrity dancing competition ahead of the ITV1 show in the head-to-head period.

Even a quadruple elimination on Sunday night couldn't help to get figures up, with 11 million viewers tuning on Sunday night, down on 2009 and 2010's figures of 13 million viewers.

It means there was more interest in Kandy Rain and FYD then the combined attraction of Jonjo, 2 Shoes, Amelia and James who left last night.

We wait Simon Cowell's return any week now...
