The FIFA World Cup returned to TV yesterday (Friday, July 6) and once again dominated the ratings.
The first two Quarter Final games began on ITV with Uruguay v France averaging 4 million viewers in the afternoon. The match, won by France, peaked with just over 6 million watching.
Over on BBC One, Brazil's loss to Belgium in the evening averaged 8.5 million viewers with a peak audience of more than 12 million.
Today (Saturday) will see England play for a place in the semi-finals, potentially making it to the last four for the first time since 1990.
They'll face Sweden on BBC One from 3PM, while hosts Russia will play Croatia on ITV in the evening from 7PM.
Elsewhere in yesterday's TV ratings and EastEnders averaged 3.8 million viewers in its post-football slot of 9:30PM, while coverage of Wimbledon 2018 interested just over a million viewers earlier in the day.
On ITV and against the football, Emmerdale fell to 3.9 million viewers. Coronation Street also slumped, recording some of its lowest ratings ever as it averaged 4.4 million and 4.1 million viewers.
In the 9PM hour, just 1.6 million tuned in for the latest episode of Lethal Weapon.
Over on ITV2 and Love Island dropped to 2.8 million viewers, falling 400,000 from the previous night.
