On ITV, the 2018 world cup kicked off in Russia at 2:30PM to 1.6 million viewer for the opening ceremony.
The first match followed straight after, with an average audience of 4 million watching Russia beat Saudi Arabia 5-0.
Love Island actually managed to eclipse the World Cup’s opening ceremony with around 2.7 million viewers yet again.
The latest episode of the ITV2 series saw two couples face eviction with one leaving in tonight’s show.
Love Island won its slot at 9PM, with just 1.7 million watching Anne Robinson’s The Trouble with Women documentary. On ITV, health doc he Fast Fix: Diabetes had 2.3 million.
In the soap ratings, a double bill of Emmerdale proved the most watched programmes of the day across all channels. 5.3 and 5.4 million viewers tuned in for the two instalemnts.
Over on BBC One, EastEnders continued with 4.6 million.
Britain’s Best Home Cook with Mary Berry concluded its debut run with 2.8 million viewers, up 500,000 on its previous episode. The series launched with just over 3 million.
Elsewhere, Channel 4’s Humans continued with fewer than a million viewers while Inside: Wormwood Scrubs had just over a million watching for Channel 5.
