RATINGS! Death in Paradise, Piers Morgan, Hunted, Derry Girls and soap viewing figures

Death In Paradise returned with more than 6 million viewers last night.

The start of series 7 achieved 6.3 million viewers at 9PM on BBC One, down slightly on the previous series opener.

The new series is made up of a total of eight episodes, continuing next Thursday evening.

Death In Paradise easily beat out competition from ITV in the 9PM slot. Piers Morgan’s Life Stories with Caitlyn Jenner just 2 million viewers.

As for the soaps, Coronation Street came out on top and was the most watched show of the day. Despite airing out of slot, the episode averaged 6.6 million viewers.

Emmerdale had 6.1 million and 6.3 million for its two episodes while 6.3 million watched EastEnders on BBC One.

Earlier in the day, The Chase continued with 4.1 million viewers, following its record high audience of 4.4 million the day before.

On Channel 4, series 3 of Hunted returned with a strong 1.7 million viewers before 1.6 million watched the start of new comedy Derry Girls.

And finally, on Channel 5, Celebrity Big Brother’s numbers were up slightly. An average of 1.5 million tuned in for the latest highlights, rising from a low of 1.35 the night before.

However the numbers were still down year-on-year, where 2 million viewers tuned in.
