Casualty was the most watched TV show in last night's ratings as it aired its series finale.

A daring 'one take' episode brought the 31th year of the show to a close and averaged 5.2 million viewers.

It was Casualty's best rating in almost two years and well ahead of every other show on telly last night.

Although it has to be said, there wasn't much on offer from the big two channels.

Earlier on BBC One, Pointless Celebrities averaged 3.6 million while a repeat of Would I Lie to You? had 3.4 million before Who Dares Wins interested 3.6 million.

Over on ITV, Little Big Shot's USA version dipped to below a million viewers with just 800,000 watching its second episode. An hour long You've Been Framed! brought in 1.9 million while Catchphrase was the only show to get more than 2 million viewers on ITV all day, averaging 3.1 million.

The latest film instalment of The Hobbit then had 1.8 million viewers between 8PM and 11PM, less than Sister Act 2 managed on BBC One from 5PM.
