Love Island 2017 could be extended following mega ratings.

According to reports out this week, show bosses are currently planning to potentially run the show for an extra week.

Right now the series is due to end on Monday, July 24, already making it the longest series to date.

But with ratings continuing to climb - hitting a series high of 2.1 million viewers on Sunday - it's been suggested the final may be pushed back.

The Daily Star newspaper reports however that could be bad news for Big Brother.

BB has been pencilled in to finish its current run on Thursday, July 27, originally after the Love Island final.

But if the ITV2 series is extended it would not only mean an episode clashing with the Big Brother final but the potential for the Love Island final to air against the Celebrity Big Brother launch, which is set to follow days after the end of BB.

"Ruining Celebrity Big Brother launch night would be a killer blow," a source said.

When both Big Brother and Love Island kicked off last month it was the Channel 5 series that had the upper hand with slightly more viewers.

1.3 million tuned in to the BB launch show compared to 1.2 million for Love Island's third series opener.

But since then ratings for the two shows have taken very different trajectories.

Love Island has climbed to over 2 million viewers while Big Brother has failed to get more than a million for the past three weeks.

Tonight sees Love Island back at 9PM on ITV2 with Big Brother avoiding a clash by pushing the latest eviction show back to 10PM on Channel 5.
