Tom Daley's Splash! faces axe from ITV over declining ratings

Tom Daley's Splash! may not be back for a third season, it's been claimed today.

The ITV series proved a surprise success last year with up to six million viewers tuning in.

However this year's second run hasn't been as popular with closer to 3 million viewers.

The Saturday night live show has been hit hard by tougher competition from BBC One in the form of The Voice UK, which last year didn't start until April time.

“Worryingly the ratings are in free-fall and if they don’t pick up there’s no way the show will be recommissioned," a source said today.

They told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “A lot of money has been spent on improving it for the second series but despite it looking visually better and more professional that hasn’t shown in the ratings unfortunately. If ratings drop below 3million before the end then it will be in trouble.

“The general feeling is the novelty factor of having Tom on the show has worn off and there’s not enough diving to keep a lot of viewers hooked.”

A spokesperson for ITV insisted: “No decisions will be made until the end of the current series.”
