RATINGS! X Factor, Vanity Fair, Bodyguard, Celebrity Big Brother viewing figures
BBC One’s Bodyguard was the most watched show on TV on Sunday night.
Set in and around the corridors of power, Bodyguard tells the fictional story of David Budd (Richard Madden), a heroic but volatile war veteran now working as a Specialist Protection Officer for the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch (RaSP), assigned to protect the ambitious and powerful Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes).
The new series launched last Sunday night to 6.7 million viewers – a number which it matched last night.
Keeping the audience was an impressive feat, with ITV launching its own big autumn drama Vanity Fair in the same slot.
ITV’s adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray’s novel began with 3 million viewers in the 9PM hour. The series continues tonight (Monday, September 3) at 9PM.
Earlier, episode two of The X Factor fell to 5 million viewers from the 5.7 million launch figure on Saturday. The installment was down 1.5 million viewers on 2017’s first Sunday showing.
This year has seen another huge revamp to the series with Simon Cowell joined by new judges Robbie Williams, Ayda Williams and Louis Tomlinson.
Auditions – being held at the arenas once again – will continue both next Saturday and Sunday night on ITV.
Elsewhere on ITV last night and series two of 5 Gold Rings began with 2.2 million viewers while The Imitation Game started with 1.3 million in the 10PM hour.
On Channel 5, 1.4 million viewers tuned in for the latest drama from the Celebrity Big Brother house.
Emma Willis will air a special live episode tonight at 9PM, featuring a surprise eviction and an interview with Roxanne Pallett.
