RATINGS! Sport Relief viewing figures drop to all time low

2018’s Sport Relief telethon was watched by just over 3 million viewers on TV last night (Friday, March 23).

An average of 3.4 million viewers tuned in between 7PM and 10PM, peaking with 4 million.

1.2 million stuck with the second part from 10:35PM through to 1AM on Saturday morning.

The night saw a range of music performances, comedy sketches, celebrity boxing and a Strictly Come Dancing special.

The numbers are well down on the 5.1 million who watched the event in 2016, the previous record low, and the 6.1 million who watched Comic Relief in 2017.

Sport Relief, which began in 2002, enjoyed its best year in the ratings back in 2010 where 7.9 million watched.

Regardless of viewing figures, Sport Relief’s night raised a whopping £38 million for charity in the UK and abroad.

Host Davina McCall said: “Sport Relief is always a really special night and this evening, once again, we’ve seen the public show just how generous they are.”

Elsewhere in last night’s ratings, Gogglebox continued with more than 2 million viewers for Channel 4.

An average audience of 2.3 million tuned in for the fifth episode of the new series, down 900,000 viewers week-on-week.

It was ITV who topped the night with Emmerdale watched by 5.3 million viewers. After, the Netherlands v England football match averaged 4.1 million viewers.
