The fiancé of X Factor hopeful Samantha Hallam has said he was "trembling like a leaf" before stepping out to propose to her on Saturday night's show. Speaking about his ambitious proposal - in front of a crowd of more than 7,000 - Paul said his aim to make it "memorable" experience for Samantha.
"I was trembling like a leaf," Paul recalled today. "I planned it months in advance – as soon as Samantha got into the early stages of the X Factor. I wanted to propose in a really memorable way.
"She thought I was nervous for her, but I was actually thinking, 'What if she turns me down?'. All her family and friends were there and they all knew what I was planning.
"I had even practised getting down on one knee for weeks, because I am a big bloke and sometimes struggle to get up again. Thank goodness she said 'Yes'."
Speaking to The Sun, Paul added: "Tulisa's decision [to say yes] was a bonus. Samantha really deserved to get through. She is a real star and a brilliant singer."
The pair plan to get married in Vegas later this year.
Samantha said: "We are both massive Elvis fans. We've both been married before, and I've done the whole church and bells thing. This time we just want to have fun."
