More than 11 million tune into the launch of The X Factor 2011

X Factor 2011

Who needs Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole? Last night The X Factor 2011 achieved the highest launch night ratings of any series of the show to date. 11.3 million viewers tuned to watch new judges Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland and Tulisa Contostavlos join Louis Walsh on a new look judging panel.

It made it the most watched series opener to date - albeit only 4,000 viewers up on last's show, the previous record.

10.80 million - a 45.7% share - watched on ITV1, while a further 504,000 watched on new channel ITV1+1. The show peaked with 12 million viewers (12.6 million including +1).

On ITV2, The Xtra Factor had 1.17 million viewers as new hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack took charge, making it the top rated digital show of the day.

However it was some 30,000 viewers down on last year's Xtra Factor opener, which had 1.48 million with previous host Konnie Huq.

Meanwhile Celebrity Big Brother kept up surprisingly high ratings for Channel 5, with just 2.75 million viewers tuning in for the third instalment.

The X Factor 2011 continues Saturday at 8PM.
