16-year-old Janet Devlin wowed the new X Factor panel in tonight’s opening episode, performing an emotional rendition of Elton John's 'Your Song'. The clearly nervous youngster was visibly shaking as she sung for the panel, who were left in awe of the vocals from the Northern Irish lass.
Speaking before her audition, the teenager said: "I’m feeling nervous. Because of where I live, I do spend a lot of time in my room on my own, reading, writing and singing.
"The reason why I haven’t been out singing is my lack of confidence and it’s a lot easier to sing in the house than out in front of an audience.
"I’ve been writing songs and poetry since I was about seven years old. It’s an easy escape to get thoughts out of your head so they stop bugging you."
She added: "This competition is such a huge contrast to anything I’ve ever done. I can’t even put into words how nervous I am."
And her nerves showed as the Ellie Goulding look-a-like was seen quivering as she held the microphone.
But she needn't be nervous.
Kelly raved: "Oh my goodness, I am completely entranced by your voice. It is so beautiful. You could have heard a pin drop in here, it was so silent. Because you came in here so nervous, it makes me love you even more. It was a wonderful audition."
And Tulisa heaped on the praise: "I love the fact that you’re so shy, it’s so endearing. That is a recording vocal. I was absolutely mesmerized by you today."
"I don’t think you have any idea how good you are," Louis commented, "That’s what I like most about you. You’re only 16 and you’ve got this very distinctive voice. And you’re from Ireland!"
And Gary Barlow added: "When we’re looking for these artists, we’re trying to find someone who will eventually sell records, sell albums around the world. Not just in the UK but everywhere. You are one of those people. That was such a fantastic audition."
With four yeses, Janet sailed through to bootcamp!
