New X Factor judge Gary Barlow has tipped one Irish hopeful to go all the way and win The X Factor 2011. Speaking at the launch of the show at London's O2 Arena today, Gary Barlow told us on the red carpet that despite this year’s audition tour not visiting Ireland, there wasn't a lack of Irish hopefuls turning up to try out in other cities.
"I think we saw a lot of the Irish people come across to Liverpool... I think half the auditionees in Liverpool were people from Ireland," Gary said on the red carpet yesterday.
And he teased: "And here's a little tip, there's one Irish person, I won't say girl or boy that could go all the way to the end.
"I can't tell you who!"
Meanwhile it sounds like the hopefuls who find themselves in Gary Barlow's category aren't going to get any chance to have a rest, with the Take That star seeming determined to mentor one of his acts to win show.
"You know what I'm looking forward to? It's not the Saturday nights I'm looking forward to, it's the Mondays, Tuesdays... getting in a room with all my contestants and encouraging them to get better," he explained.
Describing the acts Gary wanted in his category, the songwriter said: "They have to have a really good voice, because without that it’s hard to think where they’d go.
"And they need to have the passion, the personality, the stage presence. I’m really looking for the overall package, but basically if someone came on stage and just had an amazing voice and they just keep their eyes shut, that’s enough for me, I think over the next few months we could train the rest into them."
The first episode of The X Factor 2011 airs on Saturday at 8PM on ITV1.
