The X Factor 2011 host Dermot O'Leary has said that new judge Gary Barlow has been "incredibly cutting" on the show, with the Take That front man taking no nonsense from this year's hopefuls. Dermot, who fronts the show for his fifth year, also admitted to being worried about the new panel.
Joking on Channel 4 last night that the show would be rubbish without him, Dermot did confess: "I was slightly worried...but the panel have been brilliant so far."
With Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minouge all leaving the show this year, ITV bosses brought in a surprising new line up consisting of global stars... and Louis Walsh.
And it's Take That star Gary that Dermot said he's been most impressed with.
He told Chris Moyles: "Gary's incredibly cutting, that's the greatest thing about him."
The X Factor presenter went on to impersonate the singer, saying: "He'll say to someone 'I thought when you came on you weren't going to be very good... and I wasn't disappointed.'"
Dermot previously heaped praise on the Cheshire born crooner, describing him as a "revelation" on the show.
He explained: "He’s witty, he’s acerbic – and it’s Gary Barlow! The families sometimes don’t agree with his opinion and get a bit grumbly, but then they’ll go: ‘Well, it is Gary Barlow, so I suppose you can’t argue with him’”
And hunky host Dermot confirmed reports from the auditions that Gary could be a bit of a meanie at times!
“When he needs to be honest, he can be honest. When he first started, everyone was thinking: ‘Well, what’s he gonna be like? Maybe like Simon?’ but he’s not like Simon at all, he’s very much his own man. He’s sat in Simon’s chair and leans back quite a lot in a presidential manner, but other than that…”
Having seen Gary in action we'll only say Dermot isn't wrong and Gary's comments are often worse than a bit mean!
Dermot and Gary make their X Factor 2011 debut next Saturday when the show returns for its eight series at 8PM on ITV1.
