The X Factor act who was caught snorting drugs by hidden Big Brother cameras backstage on the show has said sorry, but insisted it wasn't cocaine. Danny Egan told The Sun he was using 'legal high' miaow miaow, known as Mephedrone, in front of a dressing room mirror.
The drug however was banned in April 2010, reclassified as a Class B banned substance alongside Cannabis and Speed.
Producers from the show did not call the police, saying that "appropriate action" had been taken by banning both Danny and his wife from all Talkback Thames shows, as well as cutting them completely from The X Factor.
The pair were waiting backstage at Liverpool's Echo Arena to be called up to perform for judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh.
Danny told the newspaper today: "I set up lines in front of the mirror. I'd no idea my face was six inches from a camera.
"I'm sorry and feel really bad for my wife. She didn't do anything wrong."
The secret cameras had been set up to catch amusing and intimate moments from the contestants just before and just after their auditions.
The X Factor said in a statement yesterday: “This was an isolated incident. The contestants involved were asked to leave immediately and did not perform before the judges.
“Contestants are made aware when cameras are filming them.”
