Global pop superstar Rihanna is reportedly set to make a surprise appearance at The X Factor 2011 bootcamp next month. The R&B singer, who last year made two controversial appearances on the show with her saucy performances, has been invited by ITV bosses to make this year "the wildest boot camp ever."
The X Factor 2011 bootcamp is set to kick off on August 14, with the remaining 100-200 contestants put through a gruelling week of performances and dance classes.
On August 18 they'll perform to the judges - and a 5,000 strong crowd - at Wembley Arena - before the final choice on the tpp 24 is made for judges' houses.
An insider told the Daily Star Sunday: “They’re desperate to bring the show in with a bang this year and Rihanna is definitely their wild card.
“It’s going to be a massive gamble given last year’s controversy but it’s absolutely worth it.”
Despite some 2,000 complaints about Rihanna's performance last year, Ofcom rejected them all all, noting how many of the complaints had come via images in the Daily Mail, which were not representative of what was shown on TV.
Rihanna will join judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Conostavlos, Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh to help whittle down the hopefuls.
The source added: “It’s very nerve-racking for the contestants but great viewing for the audience at home.
“Who could follow Rihanna and be confident? This will definitely weed out the good from the bad.”
