Last year's X Factor guest judge Nicole Scherzinger has jokingly taken credit for forming One Direction at bootcamp last summer. The former Pussycat Dolls singer was sitting it in for an ill Cheryl Cole alongside Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh when the judges formed the new boy group.
The five-piece - made up of Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik - went on to finish third in the series and are set to release their debut single later this year on Simon Cowell's Syco Record label.
Speaking to Now magazine this week, new X Factor USA judge Nicole revealed she's excited to be working on the show and alongside Simon Cowell again.
"Oh yeah, I helped him out so much when I came on that show," Nicole said about her stint on the UK show. "I practically put One Direction together with my hands tied behind my back – just joking!
"I’m really excited to be working with Simon again."
Nicole also helped put together One Direction's less than successful 'sister' group Belle Amie, who were booted out just a few weeks into the live shows.
Nicole's other change at bootcamp saw the Over 25s pointlessly and arbitrarily changed to the Over 28s, resulting in eventual winner Matt Cardle moving from Louis Walsh to Dannii Minogue's category.
The 'Right There' singer started on The X Factor USA in May as co-host alongside Steve Jones, but became a judge on the reality series after Cheryl got the boot by FOX bosses just four shows into filming.
The X Factor USA premieres on September 21 on FOX.
