A spokesperson for Rebecca Ferguson has confirmed she's split from Zayn Malik, with sources close to pair revealing that the mum-of-two is "gutted" while Zayn is "upset" over the break up. We revealed yesterday that Zayn Malik and Rebecca Ferguson split, with Rebecca breaking the news on Twitter.
“I’m happy to say I’ve decided to be single my children my family and my career are now my world!!” Rebecca said on the social networking website in a tweet which she quickly deleted.
A spokesperson confirmed: "It’s very sad, but it just wasn’t working."
Last night a source added to the Sunday Mirror: "Rebecca’s gutted. Saying she was fine was a complete bluff for the fact that she’s heartbroken. Zayn’s upset too – he was getting a lot of pressure to be single for when the band start to release music.
"In the end they just realised it would be better if they were both unattached."
The couple first got together on the show’s live tour earlier this year, with Rebecca telling News Of The World back in May that she was ‘genuinely in love’ with the teenager.
“We’re really in love and it’s hard to see how negative things have become,” the mum-of-two said at the time. “I want people to know that I’m happy, he’s happy and we’re in a loving, caring relationship. It’s sad that people are so against it.”
And blasting claims the X Factor runner up was only after fame and fortune, she added: “I’ve got a career, I’ve got my own record deal and money, and I’ve got my own life. I’m not gaining anything from this. It’s genuine love.”
She added: "There’s only six years’ difference. I mean, Madonna does it and gets a round of applause. I’m happy, he’s happy and we’re in a loving relationship."
Rebecca has signed a record deal with Sony's Epic label and release her debut album later this year.
