X Factor rivals Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell have reported made up after their fallout over The X Factor USA earlier this year, with the music mogul vowing to make the former Girls Aloud singer a "superstar" in the US. According to the Daily Star Sunday, Cheryl hopes Simon can launch her singing career stateside.

The pair's previously close relationship hit a rough patch after she was fired from the new US series of the show after filming just four episodes.

It is understood that Cheryl was seen by US bosses as “uncomfortable” on the American show, and was given an opportunity to bow out and return to the UK version. However Cole’s new greedy new management team wanted way more than ITV were prepared to pay, resulting in them instead hiring new judge Tulisa Contostavlos. As a result, Cole was left with no job on either show and humiliation from the press.

Simon Cowell previously insisted he wasn't to blame for the drama, saying he was trying to protect the Girls Aloud singer. "The hardest thing to accept is that everyone has painted me as a monster because I embarrassed her," the X Factor supremo said at the time, "but the truth was I was protecting her. I just want people to be in the best place at the right time."

However it sounds as though the pair are now back on talking terms - and Simon is determined to make it up to Cheryl.

"Cheryl just wants to get on with her life and forget this ‘momentary lapse’ as she calls it," a source said. "She’s using her latest heartache to throw herself into her work. She’s back in contact with Simon and they’ve been speaking a lot, contrary to reports their friendship is over.

“He’s once again vowed to do everything he can to help her launch her solo career in the US."

Cheryl has spent the last few weeks in LA, where she's been partying with Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh as well as recording songs for her third studio album - due out later his year.

"Cheryl’s already recorded four amazing tracks which Simon’s convinced will help make her a superstar over there," the insider continued. “She’s in talks with Rihanna about a possible duet and there’s even talk of Cheryl.”

The X Factor USA premieres on September 21 in the states.
