New X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos will reportedly receive a £70,000 makeover ahead of the show's return next month because show bosses fear the 22-year-old 'looks like a chav'. The hip-hop star has apparently been teamed up with celeb stylist Gemma Sheppard to help swap her tracksuits and hoop earrings for luxury dresses.
Fellow female judge Kelly Rowland has also been given an "allowance" to fund her look and stlye for the show - but nearly half as much at £40,000. Still, £40k to spend on clothes, shoes and make up, we wouldn't be complaining!
A production source told The Sun: "They put aside so much for Tulisa because you don't get a second chance to make a first impression. They want her to be the new nation's sweetheart. She looked too chavvy and cheap on the first-day auditions so producers gave her a bigger budget for clothes and styling.
"They want her to have a designer look with chic class - more Posh Spice than Vicky Pollard in Little Britain, which was how she has looked more than a few times."
According to the insiders, the move came when Tulisa turned up to the first audition show in Birmingham last month in less than flattering black jumpsuit. The source added: "We thought she'd turned up in her pyjamas. Something had to be done."
It's also being suggested that the move will help boost the singer's performance on the show, who reportedly confided that she felt "insignificant" alongside Gary Barlow and Kelly Rowland on the new look panel. "She has gained confidence. It's amazing what an Alexander McQueen dress and proper make-up can do," the source told the newspaper today.
Tulisa spokesman confirmed to the publication: "A new fashion stylist was hired to style Tulisa."
