X Factor bosses have reportedly told Matt Cardle to play down his relationship with one of the shows backing dancers to cash in on his popularity with female fans. According to the Daily Star, the cynical plot comes after Matt was pictured in a park snogging "brunette beauty" Sarah Robinson.
The pair met on last year's show, where Sarah performed on stage alongside Matt and the other contestants during the live shows, and it seems they're not shy of hiding their love. An onlooker said about the pair's act in a public park: “They were all over each other like teenagers – it all got very touchy-feely soon after they sat down together.
“I couldn’t quite believe what I was seeing at one point. It’s not often you catch sight of an X Factor winner doing that in public.”
But show bosses want him to keep the relationship quiet in order to maximise his popularity amongst female fans.
An insider explained: “Matt is hot property and everyone expects him to be one of X Factor’s biggest success stories. But with any handsome male singer, record label bosses are keen for him to appear available to fans. They’re worried him having a girlfriend will mean they lose interest.
“They won’t be thrilled to see Matt’s made such a public show of affection but he’s a normal bloke and he’s so popular with fans there’s no chance of this really harming his chart potential.”
Matt, who will release his debut album this autumn, told the newspaper about the record: “There won’t be any covers on the album, it’ll all be original stuff.
“I’ve been working solidly in the studio for the past few months. It looks like it’ll be out in October but I won’t release it until it’s ready. I want it to be right.”
