New Xtra Factor presenter Olly Murs has revealed how he was offered the job by Simon Cowell just 2 days before the auditions kicked off in Birmingham last month. Olly has joined forces with Caroline Flack on the show was last minute presenters on the ITV2 spin off.
It is was previously reported that T4 presenter Matt Edmondson would be hosting the show alongside Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh, after Konnie Huq was given the boot earlier in the year.
Speaking to BANG! showbiz this week, Olly revealed how he found it "hard to say no" to the job despite having no previous presenting experience.
“I didn’t even apply for the job! I literally got a phone call two days before the show started saying, ‘Would you like to do ‘The Xtra Factor’?" he said. “I’d never done any presenting before but when you get a phone call like that from Simon Cowell it’s pretty hard to say no.
“It wasn’t until afterwards I found out about Matt – I haven’t seen him yet but I don’t want him to think I ran in there like, ‘I want this job!’
“I’d love to talk to him about it so he doesn’t think I nicked his job. It was all in Simon’s hands.”
Olly finished The X Factor 2009 in second place after being mentored by Cowell, however the cheeky Essex lad reckons it's great that the music mogul has left the show this year.
He added: “Every TV show needs a re-vamp and sometimes Simon will be missed but it’s all for the good. It’s nice to change it around a bit and make it a bit more fresh.
“I’m sure he’ll be back at some point anyway, maybe in a cameo role. Knowing Simon, he’ll want to be involved somehow. It’s his show.
