Dermot O'Leary says he put UK X Factor ahead of the US version

Dermot O'Leary

It may just be Dermot saving face, but we're glad to hear that at least one member of the show was loyal to us Brits and put the UK show ahead of the first US series. Host Dermot O'Leary told BBC Radio 5 Live how he knew he had counted himself out of hosting the American series when he signed up to the UK version.

Dermot did go for the US show, but was turned down by American bosses for the role - and despite being told he was the only Brit in the running, the eventual host was unveiled as Welshman Steve Jones! He was originally set to co-host the show with Nicole Scherzinger, until she replaced Cheryl Cole on the panel earlier this month.

Dermot sad of the US presenting job: "I wanted to do it, but the UK one comes round first and I wasn't going to turn down what I consider to be my job and the job I love.

"The minute I took the UK one I sort of knew I had counted myself out."

Dermot is in Cardiff tomorrow for the latest round of X Factor auditions.
