So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol ace Nigel Ltyhgoe has blasted The X Factor, calling it a pantomime. Speaking amid reports that suggest his BBC One reality show is about to be axed, Nigel blamed the programme's poor ratings on people wanting to boo Wagner and Jedward!
"I think British audiences are accustomed to the 'boo' factor and pantomimes," he told DigitalSpy. "I think they do like to boo the Wagners and Jedwards of this world. We don't have anyone to boo [on So You Think You Can Dance]... apart from Arlene. So that is lacking.
"Also, an air hostess said to me the other day, 'Are you going back to do that dance show darling? It's not one of my favourites, you don't have any celebrities in it.' There's the point of view as well that people are used to seeing celebrities dancing. They are not used to individual young kids showing their talent off and showing how brilliant they are as dancers."
Meanwhile asked if he would consider poaching Cheryl Cole now she has quit he rival show, Nigel replied: "I've never actually seen Cheryl Cole do The X Factor. I've never been here when the show's on.
"The only thing I know is that she's very, very beautiful. I met her for the first time in London Airport recently. I thought, 'Goodness me, she looks beautiful'. I thought she looked stunning. A stunning beauty. A take your breath away beauty. So I'd certainly look at employing her. No question about that."
Nigel Lythgoe became the original "Mr. Nasty" on reality shows when he sat on the Popstars panel back in 2000. Since he has gone on to launch the Pop Idol franchise across the world, including the US where it will now compete against The X Factor USA.
Meanwhile here in the UK, Nigel is currently a judge on his new reality dance show So You Think You Can Dance, which concludes with the live final on Saturday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
