Simon Cowell has reportedly said that he is glad 12-year-old Ronan Parke didn't win Britain’s Got Talent 2011 on Saturday night. The music mogul, who had predicted New Bounce to win the weekend's final, is said to have been worried that winning would be "too much" for the youngster.

Ronan, who performed Kelly Clarkson's 'Because Of You' on Saturday night's final, was the 1/9 favourite to win series when the phone lines closed. In a shock result however it was 24-year-old singer Jai McDowall who won the competition - by just 2.5% of the vote.

Despite seeming disappointed with the result on the show, Simon Cowell is now understood to be happy with the outcome. A source told The Sun: “Everyone thought Ronan was a dead cert but Simon was saying he was glad he didn’t triumph.

"He feared winning would be too much for him to live up to. He wants to do things slowly. He also doesn’t want to take the shine off Jai’s win.”
