Speaking ahead of the first X Factor auditions in Birmingham today, new judge Kelly Rowland said that she hopes to find a talented singer to win the show. The former Destiny's Child star said the reality series needed to be more about talent than popularity.

Kelly will join The X Factor panel alongside fellow new judges Tulisa Contostavlos and Take That's Gary Barlow. Louis Walsh will meanwhile return to reprise his role on the show.

Chatting about the series, Kelly said: "I don't think it should be a popularity contest, I think it should be about the talent because that's what will keep you alive your whole career.

"It shouldn't be based on how cool you are or where you come from. I'm going to make sure that whoever I want in my category is extreme talented and I definitely want to beat all the other judges."

Kelly added: "I want to have the best talent up there. I'll probably be really hard on my acts, but they'll be great because I'll believe them.
