X Factor star Simon Cowell has said he hopes to see plenty of groups on the show this year, including those inspired by televisions how Glee. The music mogul told reporters in the states that there was currently a "massive opportunity" for groups to rule the top of the charts...
Asked what type of acts he was hoping to see in the auditions, Simon explained: "Groups, groups, groups. Everything in pop music goes around in a circle. Just because there isn’t a Spice Girls or a Destiny’s Child or an N’Sync around now, it’s time for a group like that again.
“As a record company person – forget the show for a minute – there’s a massive opportunity right now for a group of guys or girls."
He continued: “Have you seen this group called The PS22 Chorus? They were on the Oscars, they weren’t great but their YouTube stuff is much better, but it was a singing teacher who put these kids into a choir, and they do their own version of contemporary songs.
“I want to find the next one of those. I’d like to find the real-life ‘Glee’, as well as the boy bands and the girl bands, choirs. I like choirs.”
From what we've seen at this year's auditions so far, it seems Simon Cowell may well get what he's after. We reported last month that there were plenty of 'Glee' type groups at the pre-auditions earlier this year.
The live X Factor 2011 auditions are currently underway in the states and will start here in the UK next week.
