It seems as though music mogul Simon Cowell is as fed up with flop X Factor winners as the rest of us - and is threatening to axe the show if it doesn't find anyone good this year! Talking to reporters at the launch of The X Factor USA in LA yesterday, Cowell said the programme is a waste of time if it doesn't find a star.
Of seven series of The X Factor here in the UK, only three winners remain signed, however with Matt Cardle yet to release an album and Leona Lewis' last effort being met with a lacklustre reception, it remains to be seen whether anyone from The X Factor will ever have a long last career.
Annoyingly for Cowell, winners of older reality telly series are still around today - with Pop Idol winner Will Young one of the names linked to take over from him on The X Factor this year. Then there's Girls Aloud, who are still (just) together after nearly a decade on from winning Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.
Cowell said: “I’ve made a decision and do you know what? If we can’t find a star or if the show is useless, we’ll just call it a day."
He added: “It’s got to be great, it’s got to be fun, you’ve got to find a star, otherwise truthfully it’s all been a waste of time – so no pressure.”
Live judges’ auditions for The X Factor in the US started yesterday. The X Factor 2011 UK auditions will start in Manchester on May 18.
