Simon Cowell reportedly 'on the verge' of signing up Alesha Dixon to replace Cheryl Cole

Music mogul and X Factor boss Simon Cowell is reportedly 'on the verge' of a deal which would see pop star Alesha Dixon move from Strictly Come Dancing to The X Factor. According to The Mirror, Dixon will replace Cheryl Cole on the panel when auditions start later this month.

The newspaper claims that decisions about who the new judges will be have changed repeatedly, with Simon and his fellow producers unable to make up their mind.

"[Simon] has spent weeks handpicking the right people – he’s a perfectionist who changes his mind by the hour," a source said. "There have been heated debates, and disagreements almost every day between Cowell, ITV and senior executives over who they need to sign up to give it some stardust.”

The newspaper backs up recent reports suggesting that Gary Barlow will join the panel to replace Simon Cowell. “The dynamics on the panel are important and Alesha gets on really well with Gary Barlow," the insider continued. “Alesha is ecstatic. She never thought in a million years that she would be asked.

“But talks have been on for weeks and have been going well. She has had meeting with producers and realises it’s her dream job – an offer she can’t refuse. She’d be sad to turn her back on Strictly, but X Factor is in a completely different league.”

Auditions dates for The X Factor 2011 were released yesterday, with the first auditions in Manchester later this month.
