Another day and another X Factor rumour, with dreary toned Gary Barlow becoming the latest singer linked to this year's panel. According to the ever reliable Daily Mail, the 40-year-old is currently the 'favourite' to replace Simon Cowell on the 2011 series of the show.
A source 'confirmed' to the newspaper: "Gary is our favourite for the job."
"We are in discussions and we should have something to announce in the next couple of weeks," the insider told continued. "What Gary and Simon both have is an innate understanding of the music industry and what you need to succeed - that determination. Gary would be a great judge."
The report goes on to claim that ITV bosses have now had to "push back" auditions to May, a strange comment given that the auditions in front of judges have taken place in June and July for the last few years.
Louis Walsh said of the speculation: "I’ve heard people say Gary Barlow and Lily Allen could be in the running. They’d make good judges and I’d like to see Dannii back."
Unfortunately for the Mail's exclusive story, a spokesperson for The X Factor confirmed: "We will announce the new X Factor judges in due course and everything is speculation at this stage," while a spokesperson for Barlow dismissed the suggestion.
Let's just hope they don't have Gary Barlow and Leona Lewis on the same night, else even the studio audience may fall to sleep...
