Producers in talks to replace Cheryl Cole with... Ozzy Osbourne

Cheryl Cole

English born rock legend Ozzy Osbourne is said to be the latest celebrity in talks to join The X Factor 2011 panel, as a replacement for Cheryl Cole. According to The Sun, show bosses are hoping the foul mouthed singer will bring "something different" to the reality megahit.

Yesterday ITV1 executive Peter Fincham confirmed that this year's panel would certainly be losing Simon Cowell, saying: "We have been aware that his on-screen involvement in this series will not be as great as previous years for months now. It is something that we are completely comfortable with.”

Cheryl Cole meanwhile is also expected to leave the UK version of the show to join the new US programme, due to launch later this year on Fox. A source explained: "Producers this side of the pond aren't happy she has gone but this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Bosses in the US are nervous but it looks as though Simon has twisted their arms."

The moves mean that we'll see at least two new judges on the show this year, assuming both Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue keep their jobs!

And a source told The Sun one of those new judges could well be Ozzy. "Ozzy would be a controversial choice but he can really bring something different to the show," the insider claimed. "Sharon was a big hit and we think Ozzy can do well too."

However it could be hard for producers to convince the 62-year-old Black Sabbath star to join the panel, as he has previously hit out at the show. Ozzy said: "It's about killing music to make light entertainment. It should be about music and talent but it's not."

Fortunately despite the exit of Cole and the possible entrance of Ozzy, The X Factor is set to keep at least a bit of glamour on ITV2 with Kimberley Walsh preparing to host the Xtra Factor. A source said yesterday: “It is virtually a done-deal.”

A spokesperson for the programme declined to comment.
