It seems as though one Girls Aloud star will be replaced by another on The X Factor this year, as Cheryl Cole leaves the show while Kimberley Walsh is set to join - as host of The Xtra Factor. The singer, who over the past two years has turned her talents to presenting, is the "frontrunner" for the job.
Since Girls Aloud started their year long hiatus nearly two years ago (Ahem), Kimberley has fronted a number of shows, including Suck My Pop for Viva, the Switch Awards for the BBC and most recently hosted red carpet coverage of the Baftas for E!.
A source told the Sunday Mirror about the Bradford born lass: "She has all the right ingredients – she looks great, she’s feisty, can hold her own and, most importantly, has been a success in the music industry. Cheryl gave producers a glowing reference telling them she would be brilliant for the show.”
The insider added: “Kimberley is the girl X Factor bosses want for the job."
Kimberley has previously appeared on The X Factor twice before, helping out Cheryl at judges' houses in 2008 and hosting a live link up to eventual winner Joe McElderry's hometown in the 2009 X Factor final.
Despite Kimberley being strongly linked to the job, with reports last week suggesting she had secured the deal, a number of names are also in the running. Dancing On Ice star Jeff Brazier, Big Brother's Little Brother host Emma Willis and Big Brother star Brian Dowling have all been linked to the role.
However the sneaky source couldn't keep their mouth shut, continuing: "Kimberley is the frontrunner and is in final talks.
"It is virtually a done-deal.”
An X Factor spokesperson commented: “No decision has been made. Several names are in the hat.”
