According to show sources Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh is due to be revealed as the new host of the Xtra Factor this year. The singer and telly host is set to replace Konnie Huq on the ITV2 spin-off, after the former Blue Peter presenter was booted from the show after just the one series.
A show source said: “Kimberley was worried that she wouldn’t be suitable for the role with Cole as a judge, as she may have been biased towards her acts but now Cheryl is off to America she feels it is the perfect opportunity."
Cheryl Cole herself reportedly secured a £3 million deal for The X Factor USA earlier this week, seeing her leave the show to try and break the states. It seems however before jetting off the Geordie put in a good word for her bandmate. The source added: “Cheryl has put in a good word for [Kimberley] and bosses were impressed after seeing her present Suck My Pop last year. It’s pretty much a done deal”.
Speaking about the role, Kimberley said: "I’ve been there and know what the contestants are going through so I’d be able to help them. I get on well with Simon Cowell, he’s always been really nice. He’s got something about him that I like and respect.”
