The 2011 series of Britain’s Got Talent will start on ITV1 on April 16 with a special 90 minute opener episode, TellyMix can reveal. The new series of the reality talent programme, which will feature auditions in front of the new look judging panel for the first time, will kick off at 8PM.
Hosts Ant & Dec return to front the show for a fifth year, as does judge Amanda Holden. However with Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell having left the judging panel, it's now up to new judges Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff to whittle down the auditionees to a select bunch good enough for the live finals.
Speaking about the new series of the show, presenter Ant said: “It’s a real breath of fresh air to have the new judges, no disrespect to the two departed but for the first time in a long time acts like comics and magicians now have a look in.
“Because the other two that have gone, Piers and Simon, by their own admission they don’t have a great sense of humour. But with Michael and David coming in now, magicians, comedians, those type of variety acts have real look in because they’re not being judged now by thinking of selling their album."
Pal and co-host Dec added: “Comedians and magicians never used to get much of a look-in in previous years because Simon and Piers don’t have much of a sense of humour. Now we’ve got two new judges who enjoy a good laugh, we’re getting a wider variety of acts.”
While the schedules are still unconfirmed and liable to change, we can also reveal that the live shows are set to start on May 30 and run across the week just like in previous years. The final of Britain's Got Talent is therefore set to air on June 4!
