Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood apologises for on air "pikey" comment

Craig Revel Horwood

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood was forced to apologise yesterday when he referred to the travellers taking part in Channel 4 hit Big Fat Gypsy Weddings as "pikeys" live on air. Horwood was speaking about the show on Channel Five's The Wright Stuff when he blasted the show and the people on it.

He told chat host Matthew Wright yesterday morning: "Be a gypsy and stick to your codes and don't involve us. And get off our TVs. All those pikeys though, darling. Do we really need them?"

Wright was quick to step into Horwood's use of the derogatory term, telling the dancing judge: "That’s an offensive term to gypsies like using the N-word to black people. You will have to apologise.”

A few minutes later and Craig backtracked over his comments, telling viewers: "I do apologise, and I had to apologise at Christmas because I said it to one of my friends and he walked out.

"I do apologise to the nation for the pikey remarks. I take it back."
