Hit Channel 4 show Big Fat Gypsy Weddings is to get a one-off Christmas special this year according to tabloid reports. The Daily Star claims that the popular programme will form part of Channel 4's annual "alternative Queen’s Speech", before a special documentary about Christmas celebrations within the Gypsy community airs.
According to the newspaper, some of the travellers who have featured in the telly series will make the alternative speech. They will follow in the footsteps of celebs like Sharon Osbourne and Jamie Oliver, who have previously addressed the nation in the broadcaster's alternative to The Queen's speech, which airs on both the BBC and ITV.
A special show will then follow, made up of footage already filmed last Christmas, which shows how the travelling community celebrate Christmas just as extravagantly as they do their weddings. With huge Christmas trees and tinsel galore, it's set to be another ratings winning show for Channel 4.
A show source told the tabloid: "Viewers just can’t get enough of the gypsies. But they are going to have to sit tight until December 25.
“It’s going to be one Big Fat Gypsy Christmas for everyone."
However last night a Channel 4 spokesman told the tabloid: “We can neither confirm nor deny our plans for Christmas.”
