Channel 5 has released first-look images for The Rumour, a tense new five-part thriller coming this autumn.

Starring Rachel Shenton, Joanne Whalley, Emily Atack and Samuel Anderson, the drama follows Joanna, a mother desperate to leave her past behind and build a new life in a quiet seaside.

But things quickly unravel when she hears a chilling rumour: a convicted child killer is living in the community under a new identity.

Trying to connect with the local mums, Joanna shares the rumour, not realising the chaos it’s about to unleash.

As the whispers spread and trust between neighbours crumbles, Joanna finds herself at the centre of a town-wide witch hunt.

Caught in the middle of secrets, blame and growing hostility, she starts to question everyone around her and her own judgement.

Based on the bestselling novel by Lesley Kara, The Rumour is a gripping exploration of fear, guilt and how quickly things can spiral out of control.

The series is set to air and stream on Channel 5 later this year.
