The BBC and BritBox have released the first trailer for Riot Women, the brand-new drama from multi-BAFTA-winning writer Sally Wainwright.
Set in Hebden Bridge, the six-part series follows five menopausal women—a teacher, a police officer, a pub landlady, a midwife and a shoplifting freeloader—who form a punk band to take part in a local talent contest.
What starts as a fun distraction soon becomes something much bigger, as the women find themselves with a lot more to shout about than they ever imagined.

Leading the cast are Joanna Scanlan as Beth, Rosalie Craig as Kitty, Tamsin Greig as Holly, Lorraine Ashbourne as Jess, and Amelia Bullmore as Yvonne, with Taj Atwal, Chandeep Uppal and Macy Seelochan joining as the group’s riotous backing singers.
The drama will also feature a strong supporting cast including Anne Reid, Sue Johnston, Peter Davison, Claire Skinner and Angel Coulby.
The series promises a mix of humor, heart and music, with original songs by the band ARXX.
At its core, Riot Women explores friendship, identity, and the unexpected ways life can change, while also shining a light on voices not often heard on screen.
Created, written and directed by Sally Wainwright, the show is produced by Drama Republic and co-commissioned with BritBox.
Riot Women will premiere on BBC One and iPlayer this October, while BritBox will air it in the US and Canada.
