The hit crime drama will return from Sunday, 14 April at 8PM on ITV1 and ITVX with the first episode of Series 23, titled The Blacktrees Prophecy.

In the heart of Midsomer, the village of Blacktrees-on-Marsh is rumoured to have been a target in potential Cold War nuclear attacks, a myth that fuels local paranoia.

The village is overshadowed by the so-called Blacktrees Prophecy, leading Warren Kaine to establish Midsomer’s first doomsday prepper group. Consumed by apocalyptic fears after witnessing a natural disaster, Warren invests everything into a fortified bunker.

When he receives a false alert about a nuclear strike, he rushes to the bunker, only to be found dead by suffocation after a sabotage.

Detectives Barnaby and Winter, with Fleur’s forensic insight, investigate his murder amidst tensions and fears in the prepper community.

As they delve deeper, they must uncover if Warren’s death was a bid for his bunker or a sinister message, all while Barnaby contemplates his own survival preparedness.
