EastEnders To Air First-Ever Flashforward Episode This New Year

A man in a sharp, three-piece suit looks to the camera, ominously. He adjusts his tie. He is wearing a blood-stained white rose.

EastEnders fans are in for a shock this New Year’s Day as the BBC soap will air its first-ever full flashforward episode, giving viewers a peek into the chaos of 2026 and beyond.

The 30-minute special will follow Max Branning a year into the future, finding himself in yet another sticky situation with serious consequences for both him and his family.

True to form, Max seems to be right in the middle of the drama once again. Several tense storylines are said to collide as the episode jumps ahead to 2027, teasing what lies ahead for Walford’s most troubled residents.

The episode promises to drop plenty of clues about what’s to come, keeping fans guessing for months as to how Max ends up where he does.

Executive Producer Ben Wadey said: “For the first time in the show’s history, we’re going to be offering our viewers an entire flashforward episode set on New Year’s Day 2027.

“2026 is going to be full of drama in Walford, especially for the Brannings, and the episode is sure to raise plenty of questions on how Max has got himself, and his family, into such predicaments, but all is not what it seems, so stay tuned for 2026 to find out how and why…”

It’s the latest bold move from EastEnders after its game-changing Christmas episodes last year. With Max back in the spotlight, the flashforward could mark the start of a new chapter for the Branning clan – and by the sounds of it, not a peaceful one.

Watch the special on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on New Year’s Day, and prepare for another round of drama from the Square.
