Dancing On Ice 2019: Ofcom complaints over Gemma Collins and Jason Gardiner’s on air row

Over 80 complaints have been made about Gemma Collins and Jason Gardiner’s Dancing On Ice row.

This weekend was a musicals special on Dancing on Ice and Gemma performed to Diamonds Are A Girl’s best Friend from Gentleman Prefer Blondes.

Her routine with pro skater Matt Evers was panned by the judges, scoring just 13 points to place bottom of the leaderboard.

In the comments, judge Jason Gardiner criticised Gemma for not being elegant or doing enough skating, while in response Gemma accused him of ‘selling stories’ about her to the press.

As Jason tried to continue to give feedback, Gemma shouted over him: “Boring! Boring!” before he retaliated by branding her a “brat”.

Following the scenes, more than 80 official complaints have been made to TV watchdog Ofcom.

50 of them have been against Gemma while 33 were made about Jason’s comments to her, including comparing the reality star to the late Anna Nicole Smith.

Meanwhile, Gemma’s pro skating partner Matt Evers has had his say on the situation.

“First and foremost, I will defend Jason – yes, there wasn’t a lot of content,” he told Radio Heart. “I didn’t have a lot of rehearsal time with her this past week. He was absolutely correct saying that, as well as the other judges on that part.”

But he also criticised Jason for his “degrading” comments towards Gemma.

“He compared her to Anna Nicole Smith, which I think is a little bit degrading,” Matt said. “It’s just not cool. There is a way to criticise someone constructively, and then there’s just putting them down.

“I think she took it a little personal. That he was making fun of her as a human being.”

Following the drama, Gemma made it through to next Sunday’s show avoiding the skate off thanks to the public vote.

Others on the Dancing On Ice line up this weekend were Grease legend Didi Conn & Lukasz Rozycki, and former Strictly Come Dancing pro James Jordan & Alexandra Schauman.

Joining them were soap star Jane Danson & Sylvain Longchambon, X Factor singer Saara Aalto & Hamish Gaman, Westlife singer Brian McFadden & Alex Murphy and Pussycat Doll performer Melody Thornton & Alexander Demetriou.

Completing the current cast were cricketer Ryan Sidebottom & Brandee Malto, Loose Women star Saira Khan & Mark Hanretty and Love Island’s Wes Nelson & Vanessa Bauer.

Dancing On Ice 2019 continues Sunday nights on ITV.
