Celebrity Big Brother slammed by domestic violence charity over Dan Osborne

Celebrity Big Brother has been slammed by a domestic violence charity over Dan Osborne.

Dan Osborne entered the house following a number of controversies in his past relationships.

In 2015 he hit the headlines after tapes were leaked of him arguing with his former girlfriend.

Ahead of joining CBB, Dan said: “It’s no secret that I’ve been through a storm in the media – the recordings of an argument that I had in a previous relationship, but if anything it’s made me a better person now.”

Solace Women’s Aid, a charity which supports survivors of domestic violence, said they were “disappointed” in Celebrity Big Brother bosses for signing ex TOWIE star.

They told Grazia magazine: “We are disappointed that Celebrity Big Brother have taken this stance particularly when TOWIE removed (Dan Osborne) from the show.

“ITV took a strong position that domestic violence is never acceptable and you have to make a stand against it, otherwise this kind of behaviour is normalised and women’s lives are at stake.

“A threat to kill will have a devastating impact, it’s frightening and never okay, and the trauma will stay with the victim for years after.

“We look to channels like 5 to move on from this decision and become amazing and strong advocates for women. We invite them to come and meet some of the women and children affected by domestic violence and come behind the scenes at Solace to gain insight into women’s lived experience of abuse.”

Dan previously spoke of the 2015 incident in the house.

He explained: “It was a horrible relationship. We pushed each others buttons and stuff. And I got angry just like everyone does and just said stupid things. And I was being recorded. And it went into The Sun and absolutely everywhere.

“I mean I said stupid things. I take full responsibility for it. And you learn from your mistakes. I was young and you say things when you’re angry.”

Dan continued: “Obviously I never meant one word of it and it’s horrible, it’s embarrassing now even. I hate it. I hate the fact I even done that. If I could turn the clock back I would.”

He told how the tapes and fallout led to him getting sacked from The Only Way Is Essex.

“I got sacked, I lost that job straight away and it was just gone,” he explained.

Dan also discussed the following court battle to see his son.

“I was in a bad, bad place back then. Really bad. Depression and everything,” the reality star added.

Celebrity Big Brother 2018 continues tonight at 9PM on Channel 5.

The first live eviction takes place this Friday night with host Emma Willis.
