Jim’s personal life is also taking centre stage.

While still wrestling with grief over his late wife, Jim steps hesitantly into the dating scene, nudged along by Kim, played by Chloé Sweetlove. He’s not expecting much – “he doesn’t hold out much hope of meeting someone and is doing it more for Kim’s benefit than his own”.

But there’s a twist when he meets Nicola, a visitor played by Camilla Beeput, and the two establish an early connection.

Romance isn’t just in the air for Jim.

This series, we’ll see his mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford, played by Zoë Wanamaker, enjoying a new relationship with Nigel, an energetic newcomer portrayed by Adrian Edmondson.

Besides the blossoming relationships, we can expect more crime-solving action as Jim sifts through clues, including the groom’s puzzling last words, trying to piece together the mystery while keeping his life on track.

Returning and new faces join the case, including Lesley Sharp, Charles Dale, Turlough Convery, Georgina Rich and Jonathan Aris.

Stream the first series for free on U to catch up before the new episodes drop.
