The BBC has dropped the trailer for its upcoming historical epic King & Conqueror, and it’s looking like one to watch.
The eight-part series, premiering this August on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, brings to life the power struggle between Harold, Earl of Wessex (played by James Norton), and William, Duke of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), in the build-up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

Joining the central pair are Emily Beecham as Harold’s partner Edith Swan-neck, and Clémence Poésy as William’s wife Matilda.
The supporting cast is stacked with talent, including Eddie Marsan as King Edward, Juliet Stevenson as Lady Emma, Clare Holman as Gytha, Elander Moore as Morcar, Luther Ford as Tostig, Bo Bragason as Queen Gunhild, and Geoff Bell as Godwin.
Also appearing in the are programme are Jean-Marc Barr as King Henry, Elliott Cowan as Sweyn, Bjarne Henriksen as Earl Siward, Oliver Masucci as Baldwin, Indy Lewis as Margaret, Jason Forbes as Thane Thomas, Ingvar Sigurdsson as Fitzosbern, Ines Asserson as Judith, Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson as Hardrada, and Léo Legrand as Odo.
The trailer offers a glimpse of the sweeping political drama, personal ambition and bloody conflict that will play out across two nations.
The BBC say it’s a story of family dynasties, bitter feuds and historic consequences that reverberated through the centuries.
King & Conqueror will air on BBC One and iPlayer from August 2025.
