Ken Barlow to be left for dead by his own grandson on ITV soap Coronation Street!

Ken Barlow will be left for dead by his own grandson, played by son James Roache in an upcoming storyline, it has been reported. The ex-teacher, played by William Roache who has been in the show from the first episode is scammed by his grandson after he is lead astray by a charity.

Viewers saw Ken meet his long-lost son Lawrence (Linus Roache) and his grandson James last year however it was not long before he realised that the pair were estranged due to Lawrence’s refusal to accept that James was gay. Ken was then reunited with James recently and invited him to stay.

James’ recent return came after he made a comeback to the Street when helping out in a homeless shelter with Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson) and Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent). However, despite getting on well with his grandson, Ken is scammed after the charity James is working with encourage him to steal from his kindly grandfather so they can afford a property for a halfway house.

However, a shocked Ken is furious after discovering that James has taken out a loan on his home, meaning Ken and wife Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) cannot afford the repayments. The discovery leads to a heated confrontation between the pair.

Ken says: ”How could you do it? You come into my home as a guest, as my grandson, as my flesh and blood – and then set about robbing my family of everything we’ve ever worked for. You’re nothing but a cheap conman, a two-bit crook!”

Nasty James replies: ”I’d rather be a crook than a doddering old hypocrite like you!” Ken then attempts to phone the police on his grandson but cowardly crook James hits his grandfather over the head and runs off leaving him for dead. A source claimed: ”It’ll be weird for James watching himself punching his dad, but they’re gripping scenes.”
