Glee star Darren Criss turns down X Factor USA hosting job

Glee star Darren Criss has reportedly turned down the chance to take over as host of The X Factor USA.

E! Online report this week that show boss Simon Cowell offered the TV hottie the job earlier this month, but the Broadway performer was forced to refuse due to a hectic schedule.

Darren, who plays Blaine Anderson in the FOX series, is apparently too busy filming upcoming movie Imogene to take up the offer.

“They were after Criss”, a show insider told the website, “But there’s no way he could have done it with everything he has going on.”

The host of the first series, Brit Steve Jones, was axed earlier this year, with Simon revealing he wanted a male and female hosting duo to take over this season.

The music mogul also confirmed that there’d be no more Brits joining the show, saying this week: “With the host, too many Brits on the show, if I’m being honest with you. One Brit allowed.”

As well as new hosts, The X USA is also in need of two new judges after getting rid of both Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.

Names linked to the series include Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Mariah Carey, while Simon recently teased he was in talks with a “very famous” actress.
